Progressive Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Among Girls and Women in Rural Communities of Thyolo
Peace and stability are vital for community growth. With funding from the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) through UN Women, CCDO is implementing a two-year project (2024–2026) that promotes peacebuilding and conflict prevention among women and girls in Thyolo district.
This project is being carried out in Traditional Authorities Changata, Nchiramwela, Bvumbwe, Maggie and Maganiza. It has equipped 97 girls, 30 women and 55 members of Area Peace and Unity Committees (APUCs) with mediation and leadership skills. These trained mediators are now actively resolving disputes, preventing gender-based violence and promoting peaceful coexistence within their communities.
By empowering women and girls to take on leadership roles in peacebuilding, CCDO is ensuring that solutions come from within the communities themselves, fostering lasting peace and gender equality.
